Must-have Products for Winter Weather

Snowy day in Olympia

Cold, dry air, whipping winds and the magnified reflection of the sun on snow all challenge the appearance and integrity of our largest protective organ - the skin. When skin is extremely dry, it has many tiny cuts that more readily provide entry to germs. Winter weather can be harsh, but you can maintain healthy, supple, moisturized skin throughout the season with a few of our favorite products.

Balms & Butters: Before heading out into the cold, prepare exposed flesh with a soothing and protective layer of our raw, handcrafted shea butter or shea butter balms. Our hand and body balms and our lip balms are formulated with indigenous African oils that are completely unrefined, wild harvested and/or extracted using centuries old traditional methods. These oils contain extraordinary antioxidant properties that studies have shown can help reduce or even prevent cell damage and promote a healthy, vibrant complexion.

African Black Soap: A good skin care system begins in the shower with the soap that you use. When skin is dry, it is generally much more sensitive than skin that is well moisturized, so an extra gentle soap is in order during colder months. While all of our soaps are extra-rich and creamy due to the high shea butter content, our Unscented African Black Soap is generally regarded as the most gentle. In fact, mothers in Togo use this soap exclusively to bathe newborns.

Enriching Hair Lotion: You might think of this as a more summer oriented product, but the colder elements can be just as harsh on your hair as the blazing summer sun. Our Hair Lotion works as a styling product to tame frizz while smoothing and defining curl. As leave-in conditioner, the Hair Lotion hydrates and protects all hair types and is especially recommended for curly hair and Locs. Order this product online through the end of December and receive 15% off!
